Re-Sendakified Sendak

sendakify_kfaisteele
I saw that School Library Journal is hosting a competition to “Re-Sendakify Sendak” – meaning to re-draw a scene from a Sendak book in the style of a different children’s book author. I redrew a scene from Bumble-Ardy as Richard Scarry. It was eerie to articulate how much of an impact Scarry had on my drawing style as a kid. I still get excited when I see his work.

APORIA – Studio YOLO submission, April 2013

aporiaI’m really loving solving the Studio YOLO comics prompts – it’s becoming one of my favorite monthly drawing games. This month’s script was by Christa Cassano.

Hawk egg-laying season has arrived

Another Comics Show in Philly! (March 8 – April 11)

mystery_monkey

Three of my comics are featured in The Funnies, curated by Joanna Quigley. One is the above Mystery Monkey, which I’ve been sitting on for a long time. I made it right when I got back from the comics residency in New Smyrna Beach at the ACA – right after the Mystery Monkey of Tampa was captured, and the woman was arrested for riding the manatee. Lots of great Floridian animal news.

See Mystery Monkey, Animal Party (featured in Feb 2013′s SY #4 challenge), and another piece I did about the hazards of cycling in Philly (which sold on opening night!) at Benna’s until April 11.
