Re-Sendakified Sendak

I saw that School Library Journal is hosting a competition to “Re-Sendakify Sendak” – meaning to re-draw a scene from a Sendak book in the style of a different children’s book author. I redrew a scene from Bumble-Ardy as Richard Scarry. It was eerie to articulate how much of an impact Scarry had on my drawing style as a kid. I still get excited when I see his work.

iPad drawings at the zoo

Spent the snowy day mostly inside the Aviary, then moved to the Reptile House 45 min before closing. I should spend more time in there, I kept on having to chase the Oropendolas and Hammerkopfs.
I also think I’ve realized why the learning curve was so steep on these iPad drawings: it’s a lot like painting and layering.
